FEAD FAQs
How do I sign up for class?
Please use the “Contact us” button on the website, giving details about your child and which class you are interested in. We will then send a link to book a 2-week trial session for £10. This way you and your child have the chance to experience the magic at FEAD.
Do I leave my child at class?
On week 1 we encourage parents or carers to stay and watch and see what goes on in a normal class and of course meet the staff. Then once the child is settled on a week to week basis, parents leave their children.
Do you do shows?
Yes! we produce a spectacular production every 2 years at a professional theatre, with fabulous costumes and all pupils are involved. It is the highlight of the Academy calendar. On the alternate years to our big production, we have a showcase for upper school pupils and to celebrate the current leavers. This is open to anyone in the school to attend and is usually a fantastic community event.
Do you offer boy specific classes?
We are very proud that we have our very own Boys Crew, two boys-only classes that are full of energy, fitness and fun. These classes allow boys to get a taste of dance before possibly transitioning to more classes within the main school.
How do you pay fees?
Fees are paid monthly as a recurring payment via Stripe through our CRM, Class Manager. You will receive an invoice each month advising you of the amount. We generally follow school term times. All dates are on the website and given out regularly in email newsletters.
What does my child need to wear on the first class?
We do not expect you to purchase any uniform before you have taken part in your first class and spoken to Academy staff. Leggings, t-shirt and bare feet is fine for the fist lesson. Staff can then advise on uniform. You can also visit our website and log in to the parent hub for more information on uniform.
Which society/awarding body do you teach?
All teachers are fully qualified with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) A worldwide organisation with great syllabus and training opportunities for dancers and teachers alike. Regular examination sessions run for all ages and levels throughout the school year. Once again please see our website to read about exam criteria on the parent hub section.
How do you communicate with parents?
We pride ourselves on communicating well with our Academy families. We send regular emails and have active Facebook and Instagram accounts. Our website is also a great place to find lots of useful information and it is updated monthly. We also have a closed FEAD Community Group on Facebook just for parents.
What extra opportunities do pupils have within the Academy?
As well as a very comprehensive timetable of Dance, Acrobatic Arts, Musical Theatre and Dinky Dancers, the pupils get many chances to take part in outside performance opportunities too. We supply dancers for several local pantos. We also recommend and support dancers that want to audition for Associate Programmes that support their regular dance classes with the Academy. As a school, we get involved in any extra performance opportunities we can.
Do you need to do all the dance subjects?
We expect all Academy pupils to take Ballet class, as this is the technical basis of all dance and vitally important to developing a good strong grounding for all other subjects. The Academy timetable is structured so that all pupils study Ballet, Tap and Modern as a minimum. Then all the other subjects are optional but go hand and hand with good quality rounded theatre training.
Thank you so much for taking care of our girl as always. What a lovely idea to get the whole class to discuss loss and talk openly about their feelings. You handle those situations really well by going the extra mile to support your pupils. Thanks again.
